Ice dams make it worse. When snow melts and refreezes at the edge of your skylight, it creates a dam that pushes water under the flashing and straight into your ceiling.
The other common culprit is condensation that looks like a leak. If your skylight has single-pane glass or a broken seal, warm air from your house hits cold glass and turns into water. That water drips down and stains your ceiling, and it looks exactly like a roof leak. The fix for that is a new skylight with insulated glass, not a repair.

We wrap the curb with waterproof membrane, tie it into your existing roof membrane, and make sure there’s a clear path for water to drain away. Then we install the skylight on top of that and flash it correctly.
