Fasteners can corrode or pull through. And the frame underneath is almost always wood, so even if your decking surface is composite, the structure can still rot.
A lot of homeowners assume composite means maintenance-free, but that’s not quite true. The surface materials last longer than wood, but the installation matters just as much. If the boards weren’t installed with the right fasteners or if the frame wasn’t built to handle expansion and contraction, you’ll have problems. We see this a lot with decks that were installed 10 to 15 years ago when composite materials were newer and installation standards weren’t as refined.

The goal is to make the repair look clean and last as long as the rest of your deck.

We don’t give prices over the phone because every deck is different. The size, the materials, the extent of the damage, and how accessible everything is all affect the cost. We need to see the deck in person to give you an accurate estimate.
What we can tell you is that waiting makes it more expensive. A $500 board replacement turns into a $3,000 joist repair if you let it go. A $2,000 structural fix turns into a $15,000 replacement if the frame fails. The longer you wait, the bigger the problem gets and the more it costs to fix. Usually not, unless the damage was caused by a specific covered event like a storm or a fallen tree. Normal wear and tear, rot from age or moisture, and damage from lack of maintenance typically aren’t covered. If a winter storm damaged your deck or if a tree fell on it, you might have coverage—but you’ll need to file a claim and get an adjuster out to assess the damage.
